Join Us for the Annual Meeting of the Southern Hills Community Association
🗓️ Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at 7:00 PM in the Slavens cafeteria
This meeting is a chance for neighbors to gather and discuss issues relevant to the neighborhood. It is also an opportunity to vote on members of the SHCA Board.
We plan to discuss the accomplishments of the past year and plans for next year. We would like to put a special focus on ideas from the community for what else the SHCA can do to promote neighborhood connections in the coming year. Please come ready with ideas and enthusiasm to implement them with the Association’s help.
Have You Paid Your Dues?
At the time of writing only 46 of 561 properties in the area of the Southern Hills Community Association have paid dues for 2026. Dues are paid per property, per calendar year. We can’t do it without you! Find this email useful? Enjoy attending our events? Want to see us do even more? Please consider joining the SHCA and paying your annual dues if you live in the neighborhood.
🆕 Check Our Website To See if Your 2026 Dues Are Paid!
Visit the “Join” page of our site and scroll down. Properties with paid dues are listed by street number, street direction, and the first three letters of the street name. The first three letters of the last name of the resident on the most recent payment are also displayed. Do you think you paid, but don’t see your property listed? Send us an email with your details and we will investigate.
🤝 Join and Pay Today! We Need Your Support!
Join the SHCA now and pay your annual dues (only $25!) if you live in the neighborhood. If you live outside the Association area, please consider making a contribution, too! We also plan to collect dues at the meeting.
Quick Update: Redrawing Denver Public Schools Boundaries
Thank you to everyone who showed up at the Southeast regional community engagement meeting at Hamilton Middle School! We had a fantastic turnout and made it clear to DPS that we love Slavens, how it works today, and its place in our neighborhood! Unfortunately, the district had very little to share at the meeting. Everyone is encouraged to pay close attention as the process develops. Stay tuned for more updates!
🗝️ More Actions to Take
Email the Board of Education, Superintendent Dr. Alex Marrero, and the Enrollment and Campus Planning department with your positive thoughts about Slavens and our community and why change is not necessary in the Southeast region.

Do you want to help keep our students safe while making a positive impact on the Slavens community? We are looking for volunteers or paid crossing guards to assist with student safety during arrival and dismissal. This is a great way to get involved, help children keep safe, and even earn a little extra money.
If you are interested in volunteering or learning more about this opportunity, please reach out to Darcie Forde at [email protected]. Your help makes a difference!
Let’s Communicate! If you have concerns, compliments, or other thoughts about Slavens, the Association can share those with the school. Reply to this email or email us at [email protected]!

Common Ground Community Design Festival
Celebrating design for civic good in Denver.
Common Ground brings together civic leaders, community organizations, designers, and students to co-create public pavilions that show the power of design to create a Denver where everyone belongs.
Five community organizations from around Denver were paired with teams of architecture students and faculty at the University of Colorado Denver to co-create public pavilions that celebrate their unique mission and identity. The pavilions will be on display at a first-of-its-kind design festival for Denver, at the Denver Performing Arts Complex for a limited time starting September 24. Following the festival, each organization will own the pavilions, creating lasting impact in their communities.

Updated Denver Water Restrictions

The Denver Board of Water Commissioners announced an amendment to its Stage 1 drought resolution to prohibit lawn watering as of Oct. 1. Until that time, Denver Water customers are required to follow mandatory watering restrictions of two assigned days per week through September 30. High temperatures, limited precipitation and a record-low snowpack continue to place significant pressure on water supplies.
Denver Water will also step up watering rules enforcement: Customers who repeatedly violate watering restrictions may face enforcement actions and charges of up to $2,000. Additional measures may include installation of a water-flow restriction device on the property or, in severe cases, disconnection of water service.
High-traffic, active-use grass areas, such as parks and school fields, may only be watered after September 30, under a Denver Water-approved water budget or variance. Additionally, recycled water users can continue to irrigate any day of the week, following the standard watering rules, as they are relying on reused water supply.
What can you do?
Report water waste such as watering on non-designated days, watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., sprinklers running during rain or water flowing into streets and gutters. When reporting water waste, include as much detail as possible and remember that photos are especially helpful!
Follow all mandatory outdoor watering restrictions, including watering only on assigned days and avoiding irrigation when rain is forecast.
Turn off spray irrigation systems and cease all lawn watering after September 30. Hand-watering grass also will not be permitted after this date.
Hand-water your trees and shrubs as needed, particularly during extended periods of hot, dry weather. Protecting established trees now will help preserve their benefits for years to come.
Remember: every gallon saved, indoors and outdoors, helps preserve supplies today and improves our ability to recover from drought conditions in the years ahead.
