Update: Redrawing Denver Public Schools Boundaries

First, apologies for sending two emails in two days! Things are moving quickly with this process. Second, have a great long weekend!

📚 Background

Denver Public Schools is beginning the process of evaluating potential changes to school boundaries and zones for all schools in the district, including possibly Slavens. These changes will be determined by October 2026 and go into effect in the 2027-2028 school year. At this stage, DPS is soliciting community input. All readers of this newsletter are members of the community and are encouraged to participate!

🗓️ Virtual Community Event Recordings

The DPS planning office held two virtual community events this week. Recordings will eventually be made available by the district, but we also recorded them. Those recordings are available on Youtube at the links below. Both sessions cover the same slide presentation in the first half, then open up for Q&A.

Note: A recording issue caused an echo on the first session video, so we recommend watching the second one. If you are interested in the Q&A in the first session, jump ahead to 27:00.

Session 2, Friday May 22, 2026 (better of the two recordings)

📧 Email the Board of Education and the DPS Planning Office

If you feel moved to weigh in on this issue, consider sending emails with the following content to the DPS board:

  • Let the board know what you love about Slavens, how it works, and how it functions as a part of the Wellshire community. Why is Slavens a great K-8? What does it mean to be a neighborhood K-8? Why should it stay that way?

  • Be kind! The best emails are ones that are kind and show respect for the process while still advocating for or against any changes.

You can also email the DPS Enrollment Campus and Planning Department at [email protected].

Did you email the board? Are you interested in sharing what you wrote and possibly coordinating on future messaging? Reply to this email or email [email protected]!
