🌳 The emerald ash borer has been confirmed in Denver! The emerald ash borer (EAB), an invasive pest that has devastated ash tree populations across the U.S. and parts of Canada, has been confirmed in the City and County of Denver. This insect poses a significant threat to our urban forest, as one in every six trees in Denver is an ash tree. The good news? There are steps you can take to protect your ash trees and help slow the spread of EAB:

Identify Your Ash Trees:

Look for compound leaves with five to nine leaflets, opposite branching and diamond-patterned bark. Check out photos and tips to help you identify ash trees.

Inspect Your Trees:

Signs of EAB infestation include:

- D-shaped exit holes in the bark
- Falling bark
- Wavy lines under the bark
- Increased woodpecker activity (especially Northern Flickers)

Take Action:

If you have an ash tree, consult a licensed tree care professional to discuss treatment or removal and replacement. Proper treatments are 95% effective when applied by professionals.

If removal is necessary, consider replacing your ash tree with a Denver Office of the City Forester-approved species. 🌳

🏘️ Welcome to the Summer of RNO Reform!

The offices of Councilwoman Gonzales-Gutierrez and Councilman Kashmann are looking into our city’s current RNO Ordinance with hopes to strengthen our RNOs and empower our residents to engage with their neighborhoods and government. The RNO Ordinance was written in the 70s and Denver City Council recognizes the need to update the ordinance to reflect the needs of today. Our hope is to increase equity, participation, and city support to the RNO network.

BUT before we get started, we want to hear from you! Our offices are dedicated to a robust community engagement process over the course of this summer and fall, to gather data and reform the ordinance with recommendations from Denverites. We are gathering our data by asking folks to fill out a survey and hope you can fill it out too!

🚒 Denver Fire Department Strategic Planning

The Denver Fire Department is collecting valuable insights and feedback to assist us in forming our goals and objectives for our 5-year strategic plan which begins in 2026. Your input as a Denver resident is crucial in helping us understand different perspectives as we formulate our long- and short-term goals. We truly appreciate you taking the time to tell us what fire department issues are important to you and your community. The survey will close on July 31, 2025. Take the Community Strategic Planning for the Denver Fire Department survey.

Working hours will be from 7am to 5pm weekdays. Some night work may occur.

Beginning in July, barriers will be placed on Hampden Avenue closing down a lane in each direction through August. Motorists should allow for extra time in their schedules for possible delays. Learn more.
