Make Your Voice Heard
What matters most to YOU about southeast Denver? Councilwoman Diana Romero Campbell launched an important community survey regarding local issues and the quality of city services. Especially with a new bond initiative announced by the City of Denver, YOUR responses will have a direct impact on decisions affecting our community now and in the future.
Trash, Recycle, and Compost
With all the recent changes to Denver’s trash, recycling, and compost services, it can be hard to figure out what to put out when. Here are some quick tips:
Get a personalized schedule for your address:
On the web, visit Trash, Recycle, Compost: Collection Schedules and Guidelines
On your phone, download the app for iOS or Android
Recycling is now being collected every other week instead of weekly:
The city noticed that folks were not recycling enough to justify weekly truck rolls and the accompanying pollution, so recycling has been cut back to every other week. Read more at Denverite.
Need more recycling capacity? Make sure that you are breaking down your boxes to maximize your space. Still need more? Request a second recycle bin from Denver Utilities.
Large Item Pickup is now every nine weeks instead of every four weeks:
The city hopes that “reducing large item pick-up frequency will help incentivize efforts to find alternative options to throwing items into the landfill.” (CBS News)
To that end, if you have an item to get rid of that someone else might consider using, try Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor, or a local “buy nothing” group on Facebook to find someone to take it off your hands.
Our neighborhood has finally received compost bins!
If you did not get one and think you should have, or if you would like one now, request a compost bin from Denver Utilities.
Compost rules have also changed a little from when the program was first introduced years ago. Currently, you may only put food scraps and yard debris in your compost bin. Learn more about what goes in the green bin.
